Although I have been a licensed social worker for 11 years, I have over 17 years experience working as a counselor with teens and adults in diverse settings. I was the leading therapist at a local hospital for many years where I was in charge of 8 weekly groups and saw 20 people per week for intensive individual counseling. I conducted groups for both the inpatient and outpatient psychiatric departments where I had patients who were diagnosed with serious depressive episodes, psychoses, personality disorders, debilitating anxiety and panic disorders, and many levels of addictions. Often, people had a combination of the above disorders and it was paramount for me to never lose sight of the individual within the diagnosis. I actively participated in daily discussion groups with the leading psychiatrist and staff nurses regarding a patient’s treatment, progress, and aftercare plans following discharge from the hospital.
Presently, I have a full time private practice where I have a strong interest in working with people who struggle with depression, anxiety/panic, grief/loss, addiction, abuse, and relationship issues. I will work collaboratively with you to formulate a plan to better manage or decrease symptoms and improve coping skills. Over the years, I have seen people make positive changes in their lives and overcome paralyzing symptoms. I work hard to be a source of support and encouragement as well as to offer insight into our underlying behaviors and patterns.
I continue to be active in the community and have led recent workshops at the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Montgomery County on depression and illness, Baltimore City's Humane Society on grief and loss, Mom's Group, Inc on depression/stress and parenting, and have facilitated discussion in area schools regarding adolescents and mental health.
I am involved in a peer advisory or supervision group where we address practice theory, treatment options, and confidential case consultations among other issues. I collaborate extensively on a weekly or bi-weekly basis with other psychotherapists, mental health counselors, and physicians.
