EMDR
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Mediator.
I provide therapy to many adolescents, parents and individuals facing troubling issues that have resulted in marital discord, negative thoughts/patterns, behavioral problems and relatioships that are less than satisfying. I take a team approach with my clients to assist them in gaining confidence, insight, and developing tools that can be utilized in the future.
I specialize in treating individuals who are struggling with interpersonal difficulties, anxiety, past trauma, depression, familial issues, substance abuse, developing individuality, and increasing self-esteem. I have also worked with mothers facing difficult challenges including creating balance in their lives, learning parenting skills, and post partum depression.
My approach to therapy is primarily cognitive behavioral which focuses on guiding clients in changing thoughts and behaviors that may have derailed them from their ultimate life objectives. With this approach, clients can develop strengths and skills in order to become proactive in their daily lives. Many of life’s difficulties stem from how an individual relates to others, how one relates to his/her environment as well as, of course, life’s many challenges. This future focused, goal-directed approach is what the client can apply to his/her unique situation as a means to overcome obstacles, realize goals and experience more satisfying relationships.
My Background:
I completed my undergraduate work at University of California, Irvine where I majored in Psychology and minored in Women’s Studies. I received my Masters Degree in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach.
I have over 10 years of experience providing individual and group therapy with adolescents and adults from diverse cultural backgrounds. In addition, I spent 6 1/2 years as the Clinical Director for a residential treatment center for adolescent females with severe emotional and behavioral problems. Prior to working in a residential treatment center I was the Director of Social Services for a hospice organization with primarily adult, female patients and then spent 4 years as a clinical social worker in a psychiatric hospital.
