Scarcity vs. Abundance
There are two ways to view life: the scarcity mentality and the abundance mentality. The scarcity mentality sees a win-lose world. There is only so much talent, material wealth and good fortune to go around. If our friend has a house or career that is better than ours, we feel like a loser.
A lot of misery can be traced to scarcity thinking. We compare ourselves with others and keep score. The single man gets depressed when his best friend gets married. The childless woman gets upset because her sister has a baby. If we cant have what we want, no one else can have it either.
Sadly, the scarcity mentality is so pervasive and normal, that we forget that theres a better way. But there is!
With an abundance mentality, we realize that theres enough good stuff for everyone. We stop comparing. We graciously enjoy the good fortune of others. As the Bible says, we Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.
So the next time you find yourself feeling inferior, resentful, or envious, think abundance!
