Questions to Ask When a Medication is Prescribed
To increase the likelihood that the medication you are prescribed will work well, you must actively participate with the doctor prescribing it. Let them know your past medical history, other medications, vitamins, or herbal remedies you are taking, and any anticipated life changes you might have, such as planning to have a baby.

Questions to Ask When a Medication is Prescribed:
  • What is the name of the medication, and what is it supposed to do?

  • How and when do I take it, and when do I stop taking it?

  • What foods, drinks, other medications, or activities should I avoid while taking the medication?

  • What are the side-effects, and what should I do if they occur?

  • Are there any risks associated with the medication, and, if so, what should I do if they occur?

Throughout the course of your treatment, keep your doctor advised of how you are responding to the medication.
