Turn Off the TV
By: Stanley E. Hibbs, Ph.D.
Do you want to add more productive hours to your week? If so, then I suggest that you turn off your TV.
Don’t get me wrong. There are a lot of things that I like on TV. I love most sports and I could easily become a History Channel junkie. Nevertheless, there isn’t much on TV that adds value to our lives.
People will tell me how busy they are. They don’t have time to read, exercise, or get involved in community activities. However, these same people would never think of missing an episode of “Lost” or “24.”
Ask yourself these questions: After watching 3-4 hours of TV, do you really feel good? Do you feel productive? Do you feel that you have accomplished anything?
If you answered “no” to any of these, would you feel better if you used the time to exercise, read a good book, or play a game with your family?
So give yourself a break from TV. You may experience some “withdrawal pains,” but you will be very pleased with yourself.
